Therapy Services for Individuals and Couples
Feeling stuck in the same arguments or emotionally disconnected from your partner can be exhausting and discouraging. Many couples come to therapy wanting things to change, but unsure how to break patterns that keep repeating.
I’m Amiko Hiraiwa Riley, LMFT, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in NW Portland, OR. I provide compassionate, non-judgmental therapy for couples and individuals seeking greater clarity, connection, and emotional balance.
Couples often seek therapy when they find themselves having the same fight over and over again, feeling misunderstood, or growing distant despite caring deeply about one another. In our work together, we slow things down to understand the patterns driving conflict and disconnection.
Couples therapy focuses on improving communication, increasing emotional awareness, and helping partners respond to one another with greater empathy and understanding. The goal is to help you feel more connected, supported, and able to navigate challenges as a team.
I work with couples experiencing communication difficulties, emotional disconnection, infidelity recovery, premarital concerns, and cultural or identity differences.
I also offer individual therapy for adults experiencing anxiety, stress, relationship concerns, or life transitions. My approach is relational and present-focused, helping clients understand emotional patterns, develop coping tools, and feel more grounded in their daily lives.
Having lived in multiple countries, I bring a cross-cultural perspective to therapy and an understanding of how culture, identity, and family systems shape our relationships. I work thoughtfully with interracial, inter-ethnic, interfaith, and LGBTQ+ couples, as well as individuals navigating cultural or identity-related concerns.
I am a trauma-informed therapist and have completed training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). When appropriate, EMDR may be used as a supportive tool to help clients feel more regulated and less reactive, particularly when stress or past experiences impact present-day relationships. EMDR is always integrated thoughtfully and is not the primary focus of therapy unless it aligns with your goals.
Finding the right therapist is an important step. I offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation to answer your questions and explore whether working together feels like a good fit.
If you’re ready to work toward greater connection, clarity, and emotional well-being, I would be honored to support you.
